If you want to make progress in spiritual life, know this basic thing: whether you feel it or not, you should try to convince yourself that the Lord, our God, is all love doesn’t simply give love. “God is love”. God is love it would be unthinkable to be anything else– and therefore, He is also fair, He is also good and He is also merciful. Don’t you feel it? You should say: “Dear God, my soul has been so terribly damaged by sin! My soul is so terribly twisted, that I can’t accept things the way You made them to be”.
This brings repentance. Even if a little repentance comes, redemption comes at once. Even if a little redemption comes, more repentance comes right away. And this is how the soul moves on from grace to grace. And the road to true communion with God opens.
