Saint Nestor

Saint Demetrius taught his disciples about Christ in the Shelter, in the crypt. Τhey didn’t simply have feasts and celebrations. That would be the easy part. He taught them about Christ.

And this teaching took effect especially on saint Nestor, who boldly went to the stadium and said: “God of Demetrius, help me”. God of Demetrius. Not some other God. The true God, as experienced through the words of saint Demetrius and as described by him. This God, to whom saint Demetrius believed and for whose sake he had the courage to be imprisoned there and become a martyr for. This God, for the sake of whom he was speared. This God, who he imitated even in martyrdom, as the Lord was also speared.

When you are in command of yourself, you don’t let God make you the way He wants you to be
