After death, the righteous people live in very great joy and gladness, and only
expect, but without having already received the kingdom and the unknown
goods, which the Lord has promised them. Sinners, on the contrary, live in
very great distress and inconsolable sorrow, just like some convicts who await
the judgment of the judge and anticipate the hardships that await
them. Neither have the righteous inherited the kingdom of heaven and :”;the
good things which no human eye has ever seen, nor human ear heard, nor
human mind conceived” (1 Cor. b, 9), nor have sinners already been
consigned to eternal condemnation. All this we have received as a tradition
from our Holy Fathers and we can easily base it in the divine Scriptures.
