The blows that the enemy strikes against us, whether visible or invisible, are
often seen. But the sufferings and pains which the enemy suffers from us,
because we sometimes master some virtues, or repent of our sins, or have
patience and patience in sad circumstances, or pray and do the like, for which
he gnashes his teeth and is punished and lamented and beaten, these things
we in divine economy do not see, lest we fall into mischief. For the Scripture
says, “It is righteous for God to repay sorrow to those who afflict you.”
